BRANDING UPDATE & WEB DESIGN
creation of Telfair.org

THE CHALLENGE
Fresh Content. The Telfair Museum of Art, with its 3 unique buildings, a café, shops, extensive collections and countless events and exhibitions, had outgrown their old website, and was having difficulty keeping it updated. They needed fresh content. They needed a fresh design. Their visitors badly needed to access current information on classes, programs & events.

THE BRAND CHALLENGE
3 Museums. The Telfair Museum of Art was aware that their brand caused some confusion to the community around them—it was not clear that the Telfair Museum of Art was comprised of 3 distinct museums, no matter how much they advertised a new tagline: "3 unique buildings, 3 distinct collections bridging 3 centuries of art & architecture". The new website presented an opportunity to promote a refined brand that solved the problem through the site architecture and an updated logo design.

BRAND APPROACH
Consolidation. The updated logo for Telfair Museums features a cleaner, more contemporary font, tighter spacing, and slightly updated curves, but retains the strong symbol that has become well-known to the Savannah community. Most importantly, the change from "Telfair Museum of Art" to "Telfair Museums" allows the museum group to promote the 3 distinct buildings under one mark.

WEB APPROACH
Consistency & Automation. With the goal of frequent updates in mind, brightwhitespace worked with the highly capable development team at Nicasio to create a custom grid-based website using Wordpress, known for its friendly & robust content management system. Rather than re-invent the wheel, we used an out-of-the-box calendar application, which integrates social networking, convenient categorization, alerts and desktop calendar compatibility. Expired events fall off the calendar automatically. The new site also features a customized searchable catalog of our collections available to the public and to the academic world. The site's colorful template can be updated for a future makeover without too much fuss.

RESULT
The Talk of the Town. Telfair Museums finally has an online presence commensurate with its world-class collection and architecture.
