DPI (PPI)
Printing and on-screen layout
An acronym that stands for dots per inch and refers to an image’s resolution. (PPI stands for pixels per inch and is used for on-screen resolution.)
One must achieve a certain minimum resolution, depending on the medium, for an image to appear clear in print or on screen.
An on-screen image must be 72 ppi, because that is the number of PIXELS that comprise a linear inch of computer screen.
A printed image must be at least 300 dpi. For newspapers, 250 dpi will suffice.
