Web design / architecture

A website’s navigation includes the main menu system, as well as any secondary menu systems and buttons, that allow users to access pages, content and features. It is the place reference for a user’s web exploration.

During the web design process, it is important, once the site map is created, to devise a clear and intuitive navigation system, and generally one that is based on standard web navigation practices, so as not to confuse the user’s prior knowledge of how to access information.

Novelty in navigation can only be beneficial on experimental or artistic websites where accessing information quickly and comfortably is not the main object of the user experience.
