Rr

raster graphics

Computing & Printing

Refers to an image file that is composed of an array of pixels.

The alternative to raster graphics is VECTOR GRAPHICS. Raster files can not be “zoomed in” without eventually making the image blurry, or blocky. A JPEG is a common raster file. Raster is the standard file format for photos.

RGB

Computing & Electronics

Stands for the three colors used in electronic media, such as televisions and computers, to generate colors:R=Red, G=Green, B=Blue.

This is important to know when submitting an image file for production, because you need to be sure it has the appropriate color settings for the medium. RGB is for computer screens; CMYK is necessary for process color printing, where images are separated into four component colors.

RGB is an additive color model (all color tints together create white while the absence of color is black) while CMYK is a subtractive color model (colors combine to make black while the absence of color is white). The following example shows how appropriate intensities of red, green and blue light combine to make white.
